  • Foaling season has just begun!  Get up to date on mare and foal care with this helpful note by Dr. Kari Vogel.  We can't wait to see your sweet foals on the ground this spring.
  • See our latest Newsletter advertising Vaccine Discounts and our Spring Seminar in the Newsletter Archive below.
  • For all of you treating horses with Cushing's Disease we have great news!  Up until recently we had to rely on compounded products to treat your horse.  They did a lot of good but had short shelf lives and every batch was a little different.  Now we have a FDA approved and equine licensed product called Prascend  by Boehringer Ingelheim.  It is guaranteed to deliver the prescribed dose at each treatment and maintain its strength throughout its shelf life.  This link will provide further information about the medication and very useful information about the disease itself.  Of course, feel free to call or stop in the clinic to find out what this means for you and your horse.
  • Eastern Equine Encephalitis hits close to home!  For the safety of horses and humans in the area please make sure your horses are vaccinated against EEE, WEE, and West Nile.  See article for information about the recent outbreak in our neighboring county. The 6 way vaccine that we administered to many of your horses earlier in the spring does protect against the 3 mosquito born diseases (EEE, WEE, WN).  If your horse was not vaccinated this spring please call us ASAP.
  • If you have concerns about EHV1 here is a good informational brochure to start with.  Feel free to call the clinic if you feel your horse is at risk, developing signs, or you just have further questions.
  • There are a lot of changes occurring with Equine deworming.  These changes are occurring due to parasite resistance to dewormers and new scientific understanding.  We would like to discuss these changes with you at our next visit to your farm.  The best way to prepare for the new standards of deworming is to begin with a fecal examination performed 4 months after your last deworming.  So if your last deworming was done in October/November please wait until our visit to do any further deworming (this only applies to healthy adult horses).  New Strategies for Equine Deworming, New Deworming Chart
If you have questions or concerns on how to care for your horse this season please give us a call.
